2-Sided PLL Recognition
Faster PLL identification from two visible sides and top layer.
Goal
Instantly identify PLL case before AUF with minimal cube turns.
Prerequisites
- Basic full PLL knowledge
- Familiarity with headlights, bars, and solved blocks
- Consistent OLL completion with stable viewing angle
Step-by-Step Tutorial
- Step 1: Learn recognition hierarchy: corners first (headlights/adjacency), then edges (bars/opposites).
- Step 2: Build if-then cues. Example: “headlights on left + back bar -> likely Jb/R family.”
- Step 3: Practice with random PLL trainer using fixed camera angle to avoid unnecessary y rotations.
- Step 4: Pair each recognition cue with exact AUF and alg start trigger.
- Step 5: Time recognition only (no execution) to train raw identification speed.
- Step 6: Integrate into full solves and track PLL pause time in session stats.
Practice Drills
- Recognition Flashcards: identify 100 random PLL screenshots per session.
- No-Rotation PLL: solve PLLs without y turns whenever possible.
- AUF First Drill: call AUF before first algorithm move.
Common Mistakes
- Starting alg before final recognition certainty
- Overusing y rotations for comfort
- Not distinguishing similar mirror cases (Ja/Jb, Ra/Rb)
